OLD MAN IN THE SEA!
It looks as though Amartya Sen has spoken too soon! The Govt
has explained that it had received only a synopsis of the Nalanda Governing
Body's re-nomination of Sen as the
Chancellor and was waiting for the complete minutes for taking action.
But this old man has no patience but a lot of imagination. Probably he is
justified in his assuming that the government does not want him to continue. He
was fully aware he has not delivered during his first term. A lot of cronyism
has seeped in the administration. He has misused funds intended for the
university for his own foreign travels which are not probably justified. He
might be the authority as far as academic decisions are concerned and the govt
also has not questioned him on this issue; but he did not receive Nobel Prize
for administration and should have known when he was exceeding his authority
with the finances. He knew that after receiving the full text of the governing
body deliberations, if the government had asked for a financial and
administrative report on the performance for the last four years, he would have
cut a very sorry face indeed. So before the govt takes any action, he resigns
attributing non-existing motives to the government. He might be old but not a
fool. There is no other way he could have justified his first four years of
waste and mismanagement. So he takes the political route and comes out with the
statement all accusations of the government are based on the personal enmity of
the PM. There cannot be a better defense for a old Nobel laureate. Well, I am
sure the government will set up a Committee to thoroughly go through the first
four years of Nalanda and report. He will then feel really sorry for having
opened his mouth too soon.
