HOW CAN WE HELP OUR PM?
The Prime Minister had
always believed very strongly in focusing on the job at hand and getting it
done as best as possible. That was the reason he was not getting involved in
the day to day brick batting of Congress and the opposition. All his Ministerial
colleagues were following his lead almost always. For a person of minimum
education and maximum experience, it was a good axiom to follow which has also
given him unimaginable good results!
What he did not
estimate properly was how far the corrupt politicians, businessmen,
intellectuals and others, who were fighting all along among themselves for a
bigger share of any loot, will join hands to defeat a common enemy. If you just
have a look at the 'declared' income and wealth of our Members of Parliament
and the number of years they had been in office, you will find how much money
they had made as politicians. They DO NOT HAVE TO DECLARE HOW THEY MADE THE
WEALTH. IT Dept can take it up if permitted. When the hands of almost all the
MPs are stained, who will direct the IT Dept to do so?
Why in spite of so
many incentives many of Indian industrialists are not as much forthcoming as
was expected? Because they have the sword of ill gotten wealth hanging over
their heads. Looks as though they cannot bribe their way through with this
government also, because had it been the case they would have done the deals
long back and will be competing with each other in setting new industries. We
had always seen that MPs of different parties are more than happy to form
coalitions and either support the ruling party or do play acting in opposition.
It was well known that the scion of Indian industrialists who had set up the
largest conglomerate was paying regularly ALL MPs without distinction regularly.
So much so, those who helped him can be found in the very high offices even
today! All these industrialists are in suspense. They get no signals from
anywhere. No wonder economy which should have been galloping forward, is moving
ahead only in a trot.
Now you will be able
to understand the PM's problem. There is a limit to his supervision. He cannot
afford to pull up every Minister or senior official because if they all gang up
against him, that will be the end of him. Where will he find good people to
replace bad people?
Media is after its own
TRP on which their life depends. Leave alone becoming Presstitutes, they will
kill their own mothers for TRP. Media have come of age with internet in India
and so their fights for TRPs. Easy access to media by most of the population is
dangling before the media unimaginable amount of lucre and that is the reason
you see so many channels, magazines and newspapers in India now though
educational level has not increased in proportion. Economic improvements do not
get them TRPs. Crime, corruption and controversies do. The people seem unable
to unite now, as they did before the last general election, solely because of
the media wanting controversies day in and day out. This is the reason why what
we see as very hot issues dying in a few days without a solution and empty
issues without merit hog the headlines for weeks before fading away again
without any impression.
How can we help our
PM? First of all by not entering into futile tu tu main main with those who
write in the media. At least not in the same fashion they do. Have not we heard
of the proverb: The pig would like to fight with you, but it is for you to
decide whether you want to get into the mud pit to fight with it? Let's
remember not to give in to provocations and definitely not provoke opposition
just for scoring brownie points. If you find any particular media the offender,
try not to use it or use it to the minimum. We do not want to give more TRP to
our detractors, do we? Let's not fail to
put in a few words wherever you find something in favor of the govt. It helps
to even out the vicious propaganda. If you find any exceptionally good comment
by someone, don't forget to retweet or mark as favourite or share it. Finally
if you can meaningfully make fun out of any adverse comment, go ahead. Being
laughed at is more intolerable than losing an argument.
