What was missing in Modi's speech:
India consists of poor, middle-class, higher-class, rich,
very rich and super rich. All those in
higher classifications did not reach there ONLY by unscrupulous means nor all
those in lower classifications remain there because of oppression by higher
classes. The government belongs to all and it is its duty to take care of all.
Exclusively talking about the welfare of only the poor or imply that country
belongs to the poor only alienates the higher classes. A large percentage of those
in higher classes come from the lower classes after spending years in studies
and hard work. Not getting the well deserved recognition will only make them
lose any interest in government policies and in their implementation. It should
be fully recognized that if poor represent labour, higher classes represent
capital and they co-exist. One cannot do without the other. Unless both are
recognized uniformly, divisions will continue to enlarge between them and we
will end up like any Western nation.
