CHANGE DEFINITION OF DEMOCRACY! We have heard and read volumes about the TRUE meaning of democracy. From the popular definitions of democracy from “Democracy is for the people, of the people and by the people.” and “Democracy is rule by laws enacted by the majority.” to “Democracy is the system where the clever rule over the unfortunate idiots and make them like it.”! In practice all over the world democracy has been exploitation of the poor and weaker sections of the society by the affluent. Do you know of any 'poor politician' in any nation all these centuries since democracy as we know it today came into being? Even if you find one, you will also see all others thinking of him as “not practical”! I wish our Prime Minister would give a new meaning to it. ONLY ASSET OF GOVT IS PUBLIC TRUST & HOW CAN WE HELP IT! We see a number of communications (tweets, postings in FB, comments in newspaper columns) expressing a negative opinion about whatever projects, improvements etc. that are taken up for implementation. An uninformed pessimistic opinion can spread and pollute other minds also. With paid media waiting in the wings to exaggerate any contrary view to gain viewers’ attention, these adverse views are absorbed in the minds of people. All this negative impressions can seriously affect smoother implementation of any project. Can we do anything about this? Most often we just ignore these or at best post our views opposing it. Can we do anything better? Yes, we can. You remember the slogan of President Obama when he was contesting his first presidential election? This was his slogan: “Yes, we can!” This one slogan enthused the dormant and dejected Democrats and he won the election. When we read any adverse comments about

People who are used to dirt and have been lazy all these years, will rather let you go, than get to work to clean up the mess. Having threatened you will be forced to keep your words. Tell them, you will not leave them in dirt. You will keep on raking up the issue every day. (No pun intended!) You will cut the budget of tourism or each and every development plan and allocate it to cleanliness till they learn their lesson. Say you will run a national advertisement campaign calling your state as the dirtiest of all and asking people not to visit it lest they may get infected with diseases. Wrong time and probably wrongly worded, provoking hundreds, including me, to hurl back abuses. But how many players gave a good exhibition of their talents? Coming 54 in 20 mile walk, by no stretch of imagination can be called a good international performance. How can we overcome this? At present government can do hardly anything to improve the situation. All sports are controlled by sports bodies ‘elected’ by a rigged system which is helped by total indifference to the sport they control by public. For any failure government blames these bodies and washes its hands. Nobody is bothered. But in the process hundreds of crores of government money is eaten away by these bodies and not by sports persons whom they are expected to serve. This has been going on for all the 70 years so far.
