Venezuelan Minister is wrong!
I am afraid the Venezuelan Minister is wrong. If you really
work for progress of the nation as whole it will exactly the other way. A 'young
aspirational population, hyper-active media and social media' are double edged
swords. When they support your programmes, they will be an asset. But God help
you if you are openly corrupt or dictatorial. Increasing checks on power should
help a genuine leader, because he is NOT going to be hunkering after power for
his own aggrandizement, will welcome such checks as it will help him to refuse
unreasonable demands citing such restrictions, while a right step in the programmed
when explained properly will not encounter any restriction. Mahatma Gandhi said
that those who run any business should consider themselves as trustees for the
people running that business. If that advise is followed by any business, do
you think there could be any conflict of interests between management,
shareholders, workers and consumers? Similar is the case for increased checks
on power. The problem is it is very rare to find a leader with vision who also
does not have any other self-interest such as family, leadership itself, etc.
Fortunately we have Narendra Modi who has devoted the whole of his life for
social service and who does not have any family interest.
